Overview

“As educators seek to identify the right skills and teaching approaches to ready students
for tomorrow’s challenges, the ground is shifting beneath their feet.

Projections of future job markets and work environments vary widely.”

Providing futures skills in education and in adapting education systems to deliver problem-solving, collaboration, creative and other skills that will help tomorrow’s adults address such challenges is crucial in ensuring the sustainability and success of any modern economy.

The 21st century working life and the skills demanded are in rapid and radical change. Digitalisation, globalisation and environmental issues are changing the ways the work is done. Future oriented mindset, futures consciousness, is needed to meet these changes. Also, new kind of competences and skills are needed, and futures guidance methods can help to recognise and develop them.

Objectives of the short course are:

  • To give insight into the futures studies and foresight within educational context

  • To give tools for developing non-linear and system thinking and understanding the role of the values behind decisions

  • To provide the participants with competences in futures thinking, using different futures guidance and teaching methods, planning a futures studies course / an event and guiding students to develop their future consciousness and skills.

  • To encourage empowerment in tracking change of external environments and anticipating futures for the benefit of professional and curricula development

  • To offer future guidance methods and tools as a part of teaching
