Depending on the university and the type of scholarship, students may be able to get support for 50%, 80% or 100% of the annual cost of tuition. Some scholarships also contribute towards living costs.

Scholarships in brief

The member universities of Finland University: University of Eastern Finland, Tampere University, University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University

Field of study:

Master’s degree programmes offered at the member universities.

Target group:

Citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA.

Scholarship value:

Scholarships may cover 50%, 80% or 100% of tuition fees. Many faculties also provide a scholarship for living costs.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be a citizen of a country from outside the EU/EEA and be required to pay a tuition fee
  •  You have applied for Master’s level studies in the regular application round

Application deadline:

The application period for Master’s degree programmes and applications for the intake of the autumn 2019 semester will begin at the end of 2018.

Application instructions:

You can submit your application for a scholarship at the same time as applying to one of our member universities. Select the programme you want to apply for and go to the application page. Here you can fill in your application for both your studies and for a scholarship. Please note that you need to apply during the application period – late applications are not accepted!

Scholarships in our member universities

Finland University’s member universities offer various scholarships to reward the most talented students for their achievements. A substantial number of full and partial scholarships are available for fee-paying students.

University of Eastern Finland

The University of Eastern Finland will have a substantial number of scholarships available for students who are required to pay tuition fees in Master’s degree programmes offered in English. The scholarships will be available for the most talented fee-paying students. The scholarship can cover the tuition fee either in full (100%) or partially (80%).

University of Turku

The University of Turku offers a generous scholarship programme for students who are subject to tuition fees. The scholarship programme has 3 categories:

  • 2-year scholarship that covers the entire tuition fee for 2 academic years.
  • 2-year scholarship that covers 50 % of the tuition fee for 2 academic years.
  • 1-year scholarship for outstanding performance during the 1st study year. The scholarship covers the 2nd year tuition fee.

A scholarship will be granted to up to 30 % of the admitted students who are subject to pay tuition fees and have applied for scholarship. Students can apply for a 2-year scholarship at the same time as applying for admission to one the Master’s degree programmes of the University of Turku. There is a separate application process for the 1-year scholarship during a student’s first study year.

Tampere University

The Tampere University Scholarships Programme is intended for students who are required to pay tuition fees in Master’s degree programmes offered in English. A substantial number of scholarships will be available for the most talented fee-paying students. The scheme consists of two scholarship categories:

The Tampere University tuition fee scholarships cover either 100% or 50% of the tuition fees in a two-year Master’s degree programme.
The Tampere University global student award for academic excellence scholarships cover 100% of the tuition fees and include a €7,000 annual scholarship to cover the student’s living expenses during the two-year Master’s degree programme.

Åbo Akademi University

Åbo Akademi University has launched a scholarship programme for tuition fee-paying students admitted to Åbo Akademi University. The scholarships are connected to the study entitlement and can only be used to pursue studies within the programme the student has been admitted to.

Åbo Akademi University has three scholarship categories:

  • Full Scholarship, covering the tuition fee and includes an annual scholarship to cover the student’s living expenses (€6,720), awarded for 2 years (second year conditional)
  • Tuition Fee Scholarship, covering 100 % of the tuition fee, awarded for 2 years (second year conditional)
  • Tuition Fee Scholarship, covering 50 % of the tuition fee, awarded for 2 years (second year conditional)
